The Carbon Lab Podcast
Plastics are everywhere, but the science behind them is far more complicated than it often appears. At Made of Air, we wanted to explore the subject beyond the usual headlines and make it accessible to a wider audience.
To do so, I teamed up with Oliver, our Head of R&D, to create and host The Carbon Lab, a limited podcast series exploring the origins, history, and future of plastics. Across the episodes, we discussed how plastics emerged from centuries(!) of development, why their durability became both their greatest strength and their greatest problem, and what bio-based and more sustainable alternatives could offer.
Our conversations connected unexpected stories from bread and exploding billiard balls to electricity, coccolithophores, and scientific inventions with unintended consequences. By combining Oliver’s scientific expertise with my experience in storytelling and communication, we aimed to make a complex and highly debated subject engaging and easy to understand without oversimplifying the science.
