AI and E-commerce Traffic — What Agencies See in the Data
AI is changing how people find products, but what does that change look like in merchants’ actual traffic and sales? For Kosárérték, I asked experts from two Hungarian agencies, Growww Digital and INTREN, and one German agency, internetwarriors, what they were seeing in their clients’ data.
Their answers make it clear that a shift is already measurable, but far from uniform. Why? Because AI referrals still only account for a small share of traffic, but some of these visitors are more ready to buy. However, this varies considerably by industry, and growing interest doesn’t always mean purchases.
Apart from visitor numbers, I also wanted to raise a few practical questions: Is this traffic replacing existing channels? Does the importance of traditional SEO change in favor of GEO/AEO? And what can we expect from advertising on AI platforms?
The experts offer at least two practical takeaways. First, website visits might become less important than before, since more and more product discovery happens within AI conversations. Second, it’s probably best to start playing around with AI ads before the real competition (see: bidding war) inevitably starts.
The full article explores what this means for measurement, content, and the preparations merchants can make today.
